The internet is a huge global network of connected computers and devices that send information to each other. It uses agreed rules called protocols so that every device understands the messages it receives.
Websites are stored on powerful computers called servers. When you type an address into a browser, your device requests the page from a server, which sends it back so the browser can display it. Information travels in small packets along many routes.
