The Sun's Atmosphere

The Sun has layers of gas around its surface called the corona. It is much hotter than the surface, which is a puzzle scientists are still studying.

๐Ÿ’ก Fun fact

The corona of the Sun can be millions of degrees, while the surface is about 5,500 degrees Celsius.

All about The Sun's Atmosphere

The Sun has several layers of gas above its visible surface, called the atmosphere. The outer layer, known as the corona, can be seen during a total solar eclipse as a glowing halo around the Sun. The corona is much hotter than the surface below it.

Scientists are still working to understand why the corona is so hot. Solar activity, such as flares and sunspots, is linked to the Sun's magnetic field. This activity can affect satellites and radio signals on Earth.
