All about Mixtures and Solutions

A mixture is made when two or more substances are combined but do not join chemically. The parts keep their own properties and can usually be separated again. A bowl of trail mix or a sandy beach is a mixture.

A solution is a special kind of mixture where one substance, the solute, dissolves into another, the solvent. Salt dissolving in water is a solution. You cannot see the salt once it has dissolved, but it is still there and can be recovered by evaporating the water.
