Pastel Art

Pastel art uses soft chalk-like sticks of pigment to make bright, velvety drawings. Artists can blend pastels with their fingers or a cloth to create smooth shading. Pastel pictures are often made on textured paper that holds the colour well.

Pastel drawings are known for their rich, vibrant colours, because they contain a lot of pure pigment. Pastels can be fragile, so artists often spray the finished picture with a fixative to protect it.
