Venus Probes

Venus has been visited by many space probes that studied its thick clouds and hot surface. Some probes landed on the surface and survived only for a short time because of the heat and pressure. Scientists are planning new missions to learn more about the planet's atmosphere.

The Soviet Union's Venera 13 landed on Venus and sent back photographs of its surface in 1982. The pictures showed flat, rocky ground under an orange sky.
