All about Gas Exchange in Leaves
Leaves take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen through tiny holes called stomata. Stomata are usually found on the underside of the leaf. Plants also release water vapour through these holes, which is called transpiration.
A single large oak tree can release hundreds of litres of water vapour into the air on a hot day. Transpiration helps pull water up from the roots and keeps the plant cool.
