Electromagnets

An electromagnet is a coil of wire wrapped around iron that becomes magnetic when electricity flows through the wire. Turning off the electricity removes the magnetism.

๐Ÿ’ก Fun fact

Electromagnets are used in some cranes to lift heavy scrap metal and then drop it when switched off.

All about Electromagnets

An electromagnet is made by wrapping a coil of wire around a piece of iron. When electricity flows through the wire, the iron becomes magnetic. Switch off the current and the magnetism disappears, which makes electromagnets very useful.

Electromagnets are used in doorbells, electric motors and some cranes that lift heavy scrap metal. Trains called maglev use powerful electromagnets to float above their tracks.
