The law of conservation of energy says that energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only change from one form to another. When you switch on a lamp, electrical energy becomes light and heat.
A bouncing ball shows the law at work. As it falls, potential energy changes to kinetic energy, and some of it becomes sound and heat when it hits the ground. The total amount of energy stays the same.
