Bioluminescence

Bioluminescence is light made by living things. Some fish, jellyfish and fungi create their own glow through a chemical reaction in their bodies.

๐Ÿ’ก Fun fact

Some deep-sea anglerfish use a glowing lure to attract prey in total darkness.

All about Bioluminescence

Bioluminescence is light that is made inside a living thing. It happens when a chemical reaction releases energy as light instead of heat. Many deep-sea animals, such as some fish and jellyfish, use this glow to hunt, hide or call to others.

Fireflies are one of the best-known land animals with bioluminescence. Some fungi also glow in dark forests. Scientists study these glows to learn new ways to make light and track cells in the body.
