Seaweed

Seaweed is a type of large algae that grows in the sea, often attached to rocks on the seabed. Like plants, it uses sunlight to make its own food. Seaweed does not have roots, stems or leaves in the same way a plant does.

Seaweed forests provide homes and hiding places for many small sea creatures. People also use seaweed in foods such as sushi and in products like toothpaste and ice cream. Some seaweeds can grow very long in just a few months.
