Seals

Seals are marine mammals that spend much of their time in the sea but come onto land or ice to rest and breed. They have thick fur or a layer of blubber to keep warm in cold water. Seals use their flippers to swim and move on land.

Some seals can dive more than 1,000 metres deep and stay underwater for over an hour. Seals rest on beaches and ice in large groups called colonies.
