The setting of a story is the time and place where it happens. A good setting can create mood, shape the characters' choices and make the story feel real. Settings can be a village, a spaceship, a castle or a busy city.

A story set in a stormy castle can create a very different mood from one set on a sunny beach. Describing the setting with sensory details helps the reader feel present in the story.
