All about The Refrigerator

A refrigerator keeps food cold, which slows the growth of bacteria and keeps food fresh for longer. Fridges use a refrigerant that absorbs heat from inside the cabinet and releases it outside, using a cycle of compression and expansion.

Before fridges, people kept food cool in ice houses and cellars, or preserved it by salting, drying, smoking and pickling. Commercial refrigeration in the 1800s and 1900s changed food supply, making it possible to transport fresh food over long distances.
