The Titanic was a huge passenger liner that set out from Southampton in April 1912. On its first voyage, it struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic and sank. Over 1,500 people lost their lives in the disaster.
The disaster changed how ships were built and operated. New rules required enough lifeboats for everyone on board, and ships began to receive iceberg warnings more reliably. The Titanic remains one of the most famous shipwrecks in history.
