Blacksmith

A blacksmith heats metal in a hot forge and shapes it with a hammer and anvil. Blacksmiths make tools, horseshoes, gates and decorative metalwork. The work needs strength, skill and a good understanding of how metal behaves when hot.

Blacksmiths are some of the oldest skilled craftspeople in human history. Many blacksmiths still work today, making custom ironwork for homes, gardens and historic buildings.
